Developer Toolkit and Data Engine
A Data Engine Designed for Hard-Core Analytics
Diver Platform brings with it the new high speed data engine, Spectre™, and the project based agile development platform, WorkBench. Workbench is the complete Diver | BI developer and analyst environment, allowing you to tame Big Data and manage all aspects of your job role from within a single, unified interface.
Spectre™
Spectre™ is Dimensional Insight’s data processing engine. It has revolutionised the way Diver | BI applications handle large volumes of data. Its algorithms are optimised for today’s easily available hardware, with column oriented data storage, state of the art calc engine and in-memory analytics! Data models are now cBases which build in a fraction of the time and size on disk of earlier technologies, and manage complex user queries in near instantaneous response times. Developers no longer need to carefully craft data models for maximum efficiency – they are automatically optimised and have no dimension limits! Read an interview with Jamie Clark, Spectre’s Lead Developer at Dimensional Insight for the inside track on latest features. .
Workbench
Diver | BI works with any back-end system. The key to improved decision-making is combining data from disparate sources so that all decision-makers share a single, common view of the organisation.
The first step to achieving this goal is to identify and collect the different data sets together into one common format. The Diver | BI Data Management Tool can access and extract data from any structured source system. In addition, the Diver | BI Tunnel feature can access subsets of data from the data source in real-time.
Within the Workbench offering there are new GUI interface options for carrying out data calculations and reformatting, within the process of building cBases. This saves huge amounts of processing time as it cuts out the separate steps that carry out the data transformation and builds from aggregated files.
Measure Factory and DiveTab
The scripting for the creation of Measure Factory and DiveTab applications are also paty of the Workbench toolkit.
For more information on these see the pdfs:
cBase ODBC Driver
From Diver 7.1 onwards Workbench also comes with an optional ODBC driver for cBases. This gives users of other third party tools the ability to access their cleaned and governed data directly from these tools, with an interface into the same managed data views that are visible to all Diver users in their cBases. These are just a few examples of the available components of Workbench.
Virtually any data format is accessible, including databases and file formats such as:
- OracleTM
- MS SQLTM Server
- DB2TM
- MS Excel™
- MEDITECH™ Healthcare Information System (HIS)
- Any flat file
Project Organisation
Workbench is designed to manage self-contained development projects within a single, unified interface. It simplifies and speeds up the work process by providing access to all the editors & tools for each stage of development through one application. It provides components for: ETL; Data Management, business rules; report design; production planning; broadcasting and setting up users.
There is also an inbuilt Version Control so you can keep track of changes and roll back if necessary.
Collaboration on development projects has never been easier, with the ability to set up Access Control Rules and view the same file structure as everyone working on the same project. Upload and download of files is seamless – just drag and drop from your local machine into the project folder wherever it resides, without the need to use any additional file transfer applications.
In the image below you can see a basic project open in the Visual Integrator component.
Simple Delivery via Diver Gateway
Diver | BI makes your data accessible to all types of users from a portal interface called Diver Gateway. It provides simple displays, ranging in size, complexity, and depth, which have been organized into web browser pages. With built-in role-based security you can ensure people see just the data they need to – no more, no less. For more information on how we approach Role Based Analytics, please visit our dedicated page.
Your live system is not affected by Diver
As your live business system is completely separate from Diver | BI, and the data extractions usually take place automatically overnight, your production users will experience no performance effects from diver users running reports or “diving” into the Diver | BI application.
The Diver Platform can run on multiple platforms:
- Windows desktop
- Windows server
- Linux box
- IBM System i (aka AS/400 or iSeries)
You can choose a hosted application
Diver | BI offers hosting options as an alternative to storing a Diver application on your local server. If you are interested in learning more please contact us.
